GoalMine

Since the creation of YouTube, one of my favorite online hobbies is hunting around for great goal video clips from pro soccer matches around the world. I created this site to form a database (and ideally, a community) dedicated to sharing clips of goals and highlights. Created for the site using PHP and MySQL: Databases to store clip info, secure login system, blogging tool, private administration area, email verification of registration, and a suggestion system whereby registered users can submit video clips they have discovered on YouTube.

More details on the site and the submission/database system are below in the screenshot captions.

While I am confident that the Goalmine system used video clips well with full respect to copyright owners, I decided to deactivate the site after returning to school to avoid any possible issues. The following screenshots, however, provide a thorough view of the site’s design and functions.

The front page. This served as a blog-like area for me to write about soccer news and site updates.

The main list of goal clips. These could be sorted and filtered to allow users to hone in on the goals of their choice.

The user registration screen. Users were required to confirm their accounts before contributing or
rating clips. Note also the login box in the upper right.

The form for goal video submissions. Note the range of description and content metadata
used to identify and classify goals; this allowed for superior video search.

A sample video page, in this case a goal scored by Wayne Rooney in a league match. Note
the goal rating, goal type, user responsible for submission, and original YouTube user.
